Legend of the Seas – the world’s largest passenger ship

The Meyer Turku shipyard has delivered Legend of the Seas, the third Icon-class cruise ship built at the Turku shipyard, to Royal Caribbean. Rauman Juku was responsible for the vessel's data network connections and commissioning, ensuring reliable connectivity throughout the world's largest passenger ship. The project marked Juku's 32nd shipbuilding project.

Reliable networks for a ship of extraordinary scale

Modern cruise ships depend on reliable data connections for virtually everything, from passenger services to onboard operations. The scale of Legend of the Seas makes these requirements particularly demanding. The 365-metre-long vessel has more than 9,000 data points in its general network alone.

Juku's experienced professionals handled the data network connections and commissioning, drawing on decades of expertise in demanding shipbuilding projects. Over the years, Juku and Meyer Turku have developed efficient working methods and processes together, ensuring that network installations meet the high standards required for modern cruise ships.

"Being involved in building some of the world's largest and most impressive cruise ships in Finland is something special. It's a unique project where Juku's expertise and extensive experience really come into their own," says Toni Kujansuu, CEO of Rauman Juku.

A partnership built on trust

Juku has a long history of working with Meyer Turku, having also delivered the data network connections and commissioning for the two previous Icon-class vessels, Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas.

Successful projects are built on seamless cooperation, flexibility and the ability to respond quickly to changing requirements. Juku's service-minded approach and commitment to delivering exactly what has been agreed have helped establish a strong, long-term partnership with the Turku shipyard.

“The vessel is an exceptional project in terms of both scale and technical complexity, requiring strong expertise and seamless cooperation across the entire maritime industry. At the same time, Legend of the Seas takes shipbuilding towards more energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable solutions,” says Casimir Lindholm, CEO of Meyer Turku.

More ships in the works

Legend of the Seas is another example of how Juku delivers reliable data network solutions for demanding environments – on land, at sea and in the air.

The fourth ship in the series, Hero of the Seas, is currently under construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard and is scheduled for completion in summer 2027. Three more Icon-class vessels are also planned for delivery between 2028 and 2030.

“As a service-minded partner, we respond quickly to changing needs and always deliver exactly what we've agreed. That's what builds the strong trust reflected in our long-standing relationship with the Meyer Turku shipyard,” Kujansuu concludes
